Exclamation 9-21-08 ITA Start of Race Red Flag - that was interesting

My 1st race on Full Comp and I got exposed to some interesting stuff.

4 minute video an interesting watch.

I felt bad for the honda in front of me that got crunched in turn 1 right at the start and then later see the typical SM leader blocking the track before completing the 1st lap.. YIKES!!!

Interesting is a nice way to put it.

Thanks to everyone who was able to get around both of us without further incident. I guess that's what I get for finally being able to keep up with Mike...

Don't get discouraged Dave. After 4 years of nearly no contact with anything, now my first year of being able to keep up and I bounced my car off a wall.

Now don't you get discouraged either. I hit the wall cause my mechanic (that's myself if your curious) didn't do his job and I had a mechanical problem (lost most of my brakes). It had absolutely nothing to do with any driver or how much faster I am now.

All kidding aside, Council is the best place to race if you just want to have fun and not wreck. Just search around for videos of some other groups races.

Chris-

Jared's right this isn't common. I have run door to door with Mike and others, closer than we were on Sunday, without any incident for almost 6 years. This turned out to be one instance where I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time with no where to go without taking someone else out. Whenever I get a car together I will not think twice about running up front with this group of drivers again (hopefully).

Mike said it best there were a bunch of cars out there and over 50% track blockage and no one else was involved other than the 2 of us. That's probably around 40 cars, up front or otherwise, that were aware and talented enough to clear both of us.

Dave

Dave
uhh, actually 28 cars on the track at that time (Rob was in the pitlane trying to get his ITD re-started).... but I get the point you are trying to make

Talking

Leave it to timing and scoring to actually count. Although, I guess that's a good thing.

That is a nice video. I must say, the best part is as you pass the main incident, and a red VW appears out of nowhere from the grass. You stayed more calm than I would have.

Sorry Bill I never even had a chance to look at the grid and I left before looking at the results so I was going off of a number some one else told me... None the less it seemed like a bunch.

Thumbs up

thanks...

I got into this addictive expensive sport knowing eventually the law of averages catches up and I will have some metal-to-metal contact (either by my a bonehead move on my part or just because of circumstances beyond my control). So I saw that red VW and thought, "o.k. is this it? Or will I be clear if I just continue on this path?"

I have to admit though that I probably had a 'death grip' on the steering wheel at that point because my arms and hands were unusually sore that evening.

My goal for this year was to get my W2W license (check) have fun (check) complete every race I enter (check so far) and avoid car damage/accident (also check so far).

I suppose once I get more agressive and closer to that top 5, I will start seeing some more fender rubs, etc.... ...maybe next year.. maybe not.. meanwhile, I'm have a GREAT 1st year racing.. and am thankful for the midwest council venue we have here in Chicagoland!

See ya all this sunday!!!!
